The project aimed to study historic trends and current state of taxi services in Jordan (demand and supply) taking into consideration social, economic and technological changes during the last few decades. The study constituted compilation and review of literature, socio-economic surveys of related people (service providers, taxi drivers, passengers), studying relationship between various demand and supply factors, undertaking field traffic surveys, and estimating future demand on taxi services using regression analysis.

Land Use Planning for the buffer zone of Dibeen Forest Reserve

Integrated land use planning for environmentally sensitive area (buffer zone for the protected area). The study included socio-economy, environment with focus on biodiversity and water resources, infrastructure and road networks, and tourism and archaeological assist. Development of nomination file for inclusion of Petra into the national network of protected areas, and the development of framework for PA management. The covered domains/subjects included social, economic, biodiversity and natural resources, environmental management areas, and land use. The nomination file also covered legal and institutional aspects related to the establishment and management of the proposed protected area, and the provided services also constituted delivering a number of training courses on related subjects to PDTRA staff. The methods applied are largely engaging of all related stakeholders and followed right-based approaches.

The BITS Project framework constitute several multi-disciplinary components including tourism and heritage studies, environmental studies, review of national laws and regulations, institutional development, establishment of new protected area and enhancing tourism management within existing ones, tourism and biodiversity information management system, development of Pas business plans, land use planning, implementation of pilot projects, outreach and awareness, networking, and training. The subject SEA assignment focused on reviewing national legal and institutional frameworks governing EIA processes and recent mainstreaming efforts to stimulate the application of SEA in Jordan, and making recommendations to enhance EIA/SEA systems and procedures respective to tourism.
